Abstract
In the present study, Ki-67 and p 53 proteins were investigated immunohistochemically from the epithelium of biliary tract with pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM). We examined 45 gallbladders (GB) with PBM (35 without carcinoma,10 with carcinoma), and 40 GB without PBM (20without carcinoma,20 with carcinoma) and 22 bile duct with PBM. The Ki-67 labeling index (LI)in non-cancerous GB epithelium of PBM with GB carcinoma and of PBM without GB carcinoma were, significantly higher in GB epithelium of GB stone without PBM. The Ki-67 LI in GB epithelium was higher in patients with PBM in whom the major pancreatic duct joined the common bile duct than in those in whom the common bile duct joined the major pancreatic duct. The Ki-67LI in GB epithelium was also higher in cases of PBM without bile duct dilatation. The p 53-positive cells in GB epithelium were observed in 11.4% of PBM without GB carcinoma. These results suggest a higher incidence of carcinogenesis occurring in the GB epithelium with PBN.
