Abstract
A 20-year-old woman had general malaise on 16th day and jaundice on 25th day after an abdominal trauma due to a traffic accident. Based on blood chemistry and CT on admission, the patient was diagnosed as obstructive jaundice. Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC)showed a stenosis of the middle portion of the common bile duct, and percutaneous transhepatic cholangial drainage (PTCD) was performed. ERCP, angiography and serum tumor markers revealed no abnormal findings. Then, a diagnosis of traumatic bile duct stenosis was made. After dilatation of the PTCD tract, a 14 Fr PTCS catheter was approximated closely to the stenosis by 4 weeks after PTCD. Two weeks later, the stenosis was dilated by the PTCS catheter, and the catheter was in place. Three months later, satisfactory dilatation of the bile duct was obtained and the PTCS catheter was removed. An application of this procedure should be considered for the management of traumatic biliary stenosis.
