Abstract
Immunohistochemical examination was made of the relationship of the expression of infra cellular ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity in the gallblaader, to various factors in handling rules of biliary carcinoma and proliferation nuclear antigen (PCNA) labeling index. The subjects were 24 patients with carcinoma of the gallbladder [papillary adenocarcinoma 4 cases, tubular adenocarcinoma well diff. type 9 cases, moderately diff. type 4 cases, poorly diff. type 4 cases, squamous cell carcinoma 2 cases and undifferentiated carcinoma 1 cases],13 cases of pancreaticobilliary maljunction,7 cases of adenoma,5 cases of hyperplasia and 5 cases of chronic inflammation. ODC staining was positive in 36 cases (67%) and it was showed in the cytoplasm. In this study, we classified positive staining cases into two groups as (+) positive group (fine diffusely positive case) and (++) positive group (granular positive case). Ten cases of carcinoma of gallbladder (42%),1 case of pancreaticobilliary maljunction (8%) and 1 cases of hyperplasia (20%)stained (++) positive. The ODC (++) positive staining ratio in carcinoma was remarkably higher than for other disease (p<0.05). PCNA L. I. was higher in carcinoma cases (p<0.05). In carcinoma patients, ODC (++) positive rate was significantly higher in stage II, III and IV than in stage I, but no relationship could be found among the ODC (++) positive rate and pathological differentiation type, degree of lymph canal invasive factor, blood vessel invasive factor, (peri) neural invasive factor, lymph nodes metastasis or depth of invasion (0.05<p<0.10). The ODC (++) positive rate was significantly correlated (p<0.05) to PCNA L. I.
