Abstract
To estimate electrolytic consumption of carbon anodes with 4N-NaOH solution, a method was devised using very small test pieces having their cross section of 5×5 mm2. Current was kept constant (1.25 A) throughout the electrolysis for 30 minutes.
Anodic consumption of carbon electrodes decreased by development of their crystallites.
Eventually the consumption of a natural fibrous graphite had been estimated by this method. The value was 0.075 g/AH.
The quality of anodes were improved by reheating for 2 hous at 450°C in open air. Anodic consumption sometimes enormously diminished by this treatment.
