Siemens AG became the world's first company to electrify a ship in the year 1879 and built the world's first ship with electric propulsion in the year 1886. Since then Siemens has always remained experienced in shipboard electrical engineering technology. Today Siemens is one of the leading companies in the design of advanced diesel-electric propulsion systems of all kinds and sizes. Beside some historical references you may find some latest as the P&O cruise ships of the Princess Class where Siemens has delivered four propulsion and automation plants in the recent years.
