Abstract
To illustrate the amplification of the tsunami height by coast line topography of ria coast, we investigated the distribution of the run-up height by 2011 Tohoku Earthquake Tsunami along the shore of two peninsulas, i.e. the Omoe and the Funakoshi Peninsula, and two inland bays, i.e. the Miyako and the Yamada Bay. The run-up heights in the two inland bays are fairly lower than those in the small inlets of the peninsulas facing the ocean. Increase in the run-up heights toward head of each bay is not observed in this tsunami. These results are contrary to the distribution of run-up heights by the tsunami of Chile earthquake in 1960.
