In this study, local strong winds called “Matsubori-Kaze” and “Aso-Oroshi” that occur in Tateno barranco were analyzed using the existing observational data of several years and the multi-point meteorological observational data of the past few months. As a result, “Aso-Oroshi” blows from Fuketa to the Kikuchi-Minami Fire station. Further, the comparison between Tateno, which is located in the narrowest valley region of Tateno barranco, and Fuketa and Uchimaki, which are much closer to Kumamoto plain, showed that wind speeds were significantly lower in Tateno for both “Aso-Oroshi” and “Matsubori-Kaze”, and this trend was clearly evident during the time of “Matsubori-Kaze”.
