Abstract
This paper describes a development of multi-phase transformer using special winding system for AC to DC conversion. In this paper, we propose a transformer with a special winding structure that can reduce the number of turns compared to conventional multi-phase transformers and calculate the number of turns for a 6-phase transformer and a 12-phase transformer for comparison. As a result, the total number of turns of the special winding structure 6-phase transformer was reduced by 22.4% compared to the conventional method, and the total number of turns of the special winding structure 12-phase transformer was reduced by 32.8% compared to the conventional method. In addition, an experiment was conducted to confirm the functionality of a prototype AC/DC converter using a special winding structure transformer. As a result, we showed the effectiveness of reducing output voltage ripple and THD of primary current.
