Abstract
Effects of boron application on ear and kernel characteristics of corn plants were studied in four different soils : neutral volcanic ash, acid volcanic, granitic, and alluvial soils (Table). Applications of 15g per are of B were basal-dressed in ridge sides of each soil with borax solution. As compared with the controls (no B applied), the treatments with B increased almost all characteristics of ears and kernels in the acid volcanic ash soil and one thousand kernel weight in the neutral volcanic ash soil. No increases of those characteristics were observed in the alluvial and granitic soils (Figure).
