Abstract

As the scroll profile is very effective in improving overall performance of scroll fluid machines, we have developed new scroll profile that is called the PMP (Perfect Meshing Profile). The characteristics of PMP are as follows, (1) An involute function of a circle was adapted, (2) The top clearance volume at the end of the discharging process fundamentaly becomes zero, (3) The scroll center shape can be varied by changing parameters (β: involute starting angle, n: profile parameter, δ: clearance), (4) The thickness of fixed and orbiting scroll wraps can be varied independently.
In this report, authors describe the theoretical analysis and parameters studies of PMP that have been developed for the scroll fluid machines. Further, we describe the theoretical and experimental studies on stress of the scroll inner center, performance and noise of scroll compressors that use PMP thereby effectiveness of PMP have been confirmed.
