Abstract
A short review is given on important Tropical Diseases in Indonesia. The importance of malaria and its vectors are discussed. Paracholera El Tor has become endemic. The carrier rate of Vibrio El Tor is 4 per 1000. Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia malayi are widely distributed. Timor microfilaria is found in the south eastern part. A list of the vectors of filariasis is given. Trematode infections are not very important. An isolated focus ofSchistosoma japonicumis found in central Celebes. Amoebiasis is endemic. The cyst carrier rate is 9.3-13.3 %. A few suspected cases of hemorrhagic fever were reported. Leptospirosis was studied very much in the past ; at least 27 serotypes of Leptospira were isolated. Rickettsiosis is not a serious problem. Plague has reappeared in early 1968.
