Preparation of Al₂O₃ Ceramics by Paper-Casting Process

Abstract

By using the paper-casting process, Al₂O₃ filled paper was prepared, and sintered at 1500℃ to 1600℃. The tensile strength of Al₂O₃ filled paper had about 12MPa, which was almost the same as common cardboards. The Al₂O₃ paper ceramics sintered 1600℃ indicated the flexural strength of about 100MPa. The porosities were controlled by varying the amount of pulp fibers added during the papermaking process. The structure was characterized by bimodal pores.
