Abstract
Aim: We reviewed the adequacy of an artificial Hct preparation specimen to evaluate blood sugar (BS) meter results with a revision function for hematocrit (Hct) influence. Methods: We measured, by using a GOD type BS meter with a revision function, whole blood glucose levels of artificial Hct preparation specimens, and clinical specimens which included plethoric specimens. We measured the plasma glucose levels of the specimens with an automatic analyzer. Results: As the Hct of a specimen increased, the measured glucose value in the artificial Hct preparation specimen measured with a GOD meter was lower than the plasma glucose value, but the measured glucose value in clinical specimen was equal to the plasma glucose value. Conclusions: Our results suggested that we have to evaluate the Hct revision efficiency of BS meters with a fresh clinical specimen.
