Abstract
A house to house survey of prevalence of diabetes in general population above 5 years of age was carried out in statistically significant number (3, 101) of cases in Ahmedabad, India. Urine and blood samples collected 2 hours after 50g oral glucose load were examined for glucose. Persons showing glycosuria and/or blood glucose level of 130 mg or above were considered positive. 86 cases were found positive giving prevalence rate of 2.77%. The male to female ratio is 2: 1. The incidence of diabetes went on increasing with each decade with peak at 60 years or above (10.94%). The incidence was higher in high income group, with obesity, positive family history and increased parity.
