Abstract
Thailand's sex tourism is widely recognized around the world, and many foreign tourists go to Bangkok to have sexual encounters with local women in exchange for money. Tourism-oriented sex sector in Bangkok consists of a variety of business formats, and in some of them, transactions between women and men are carried out freely in a way that differs from managed prostitution. In such a free business format, the host-guest relationship exhibits diversity and expansion that transcends prostitution in the narrow sense. Despite the high variety of interpersonal practices, previous research has concluded that host-guest relationships in sex tourism are primarily based on sexual desire or love between men and women. In contrast, this paper points out that there seem some cases where sexual love is not necessarily emphasized. This paper defined such a relationship between Thai women and foreign men as "loose intimacy" that has been overlooked in previous studies.
