Abstract

The phenotype means a biological function itself and it is also biological purpose to find the accurate result. Generally, the word “phenotype” is widely used in the field of biology, but there is quantitative measurement such as the numerical analysis from the vague thing such as the disease symptom. The phenotype information expresses a form, structure, an action of biology prescribed by a genotype and a physiological function. There are various analytical techniques. However, it might be not stable depending on a breeding condition before the experiments. I think researchers as well as technicians should understand that the standardization of biological information is important for to obtain reproducibility of experimental results and create accurate phenotypic information. I have worked on the various type of mouse phenotyping projects through the RIKEN Mouse ENU mutagenesis, The Japan Mouse Clinic and IMPC (International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium). We show the difficulty of analysis in mouse phenotypic information and the importance.
