Abstract

This symposium is organized by the Academic Subcommittee of the Japanese Society of Toxicology. It is a continuous program aimed at presenting topics related to nurturing toxicologists and maximizing their contributions. Among toxicologists working in industries, some hold a Ph.D. before joining the company, while many others obtain a Ph.D. through research activities conducted within their companies after being employed. Many of these individuals may spend their academic period as working graduate students, receiving support from their companies as part of their employment. Simultaneously, some may study at universities independently of their company work. The Academic Subcommittee also hosted a similar symposium at the 49th annual meeting, during which we conducted a survey among toxicology-related companies regarding employees’ qualifications, the impact of holding a Ph.D. on recruitment, and pursuing a Ph.D. within a corporate career. In this session, on behalf of the subcommittee, I will briefly present the survey results and outline the planned contents of this symposium.
