Abstract
SATREPS, jointly managed by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), was launched under the concept of “Science and Technology Diplomacy” and is an initiative to promote international joint research with the concept of social implementation to solve global-scale issues and realize a sustainable society based on the needs of developing countries. The crises facing humanity continue to rise, and there are less than 10 years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. To solve the issues of today's complicated society, collective knowledge that brings together a variety of knowledge to solve problems from multiple perspectives is indispensable. In this report, we describe the expectations for research proposals with cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches in SATREPS, which is in its 15th year since its establishment. We also describe the trends in the adoption of proposals and basic information on the open call and selection process for those who are considering applying.
