Abstract

This research identifies support needs of Asian transnational professional care workers for older Japanese Americans in the U.S. and older Japanese in Japan. It also clarifies their perceived support needs and real support by assisted living facilities, Asian and Asian American community-based organizations, and national/local governments. Finally, the research proposes policy implications. The project member conducted semi-structured interviews. As a result of the content analysis, policy implications were proposed. 1) Assisted living facilities, community-based organizations, and the governments should appropriately correspond to care workers’ support needs. 2) The governments should develop lifelong learning programs. 3) The governments should facilitate networking.
