Abstract
Heat transfer through draped windows accounts 25 to 50% of the energy expended for heating and cooling residences. Therefore, it is important to prevent the heat transfer through draped windows from the point of view the energy conservation.
In this paper, to some typical fabrics for curtain, the thermal insulative performance was measured by changing the drape-hanging configurations and the number of curtains and distance between curtains.
The results obtained are as follows.
1) The drape-hanging configuration has direct effects upon the thermal insulative performance of curtains, and the thermal insulative performance of all covered hanging configuration is larger than other drape-hanging configurations.
2) The thickness (d) and thermal conductivity (λ) of curtains effects upon the thermal insulative performace, as the value of λ/d increases the thermal insulative performance decreases.
3) The thermal insulative performance increases with decreasing the distance between curtains, but the most suitable distance exists, it is assumed that the distance is in the range of 1-1.5 mm by calculations according to Jakob' s method.
4) There is the temperature distribution in vertical direction, the drape-hanging configuration having the gap at the upper position have the large differences of temperatures.
