Abstract

The yarn count and the twist level of spun yarn are deeply concerned not only with the quality and structure of the yarn, but also the efficiency of production of the spinning frame. The quality and structure of yarn produced by using the throstle-spinning frame are affected by the mean spinning tension and the kind of raw materials used.During actual operation of the throstle-spinning frame, the efficiency of rotation of the stuffer tube, and the linear density and the twist level of the yarn were measured. The main factors determining the linear density and the twist level of throstle-spun yarn were analysed and discussed.
It was found that the twist level and the linear density of throstle-spun yarn depended on the efficiency of rotation of the stuffer tube and the inherent constant of the raw material, respectively. Under an appropriate spinning tension, the twist factor of throstle-spun yarn made of a random fiber assembly was a constant value. It also became clear that the throstle-spinning process had a dynamically auto-balancing mechanism between the yarn count and twist level of the yarn produced.
