Abstract

Since ordinary woven fabrics (bi-axial fabrics) are composed of warps and fillings, the modulus of elasticity and the tensile resistance in bias direction lower relatively as compared with those in warp and filling directions. In order to improve the characteristics like this, new fabrics“Tetra-axial woven Fabrics”composed of warps, fillings and bias yarns were made, and assessment was performed on the physical properties of fabrics.
In the experiment, the effcts that the difference in the structures of bi-axial and tetra-axial fabrics exerted to the load-elongation curves, the tensile resistances, the moduli of elasticity and the tearing strengths were investigated. The tensile tests was carried out based on technique of F.L.Scardino.and F.K.Ko.The tensile resistance and the modulus of elasticity of bi-axial fabrics lowered severely in bias direction, but in tetra-axial fabrics, the dependence on the tensile direction was very small. On the other hand, the tearing strength of tetra-axial fabrics increased largely as compared with that of bi-axial fabrics.
