An efficient system for callus induction and plant regeneration of Zoysia grass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) was established. Callus tissues were effectively induced when germinating seeds were cultured on MS medium containing 2.0μg/ml of 2, 4-D, and shoots were successfully differentiated two weeks after callus tissues were transferred to 100-fold diluted hormone-free MS medium. Adventitious roots were produced and elongated by subculturing shoots on the same fresh medium. Regenerated plants obtained in the present study grew normally under the field condition.
