Abstract
Java revolution reveals an exciting trend on network computing where computers become peripherals to the Internet and the Web. Java is not only a programming language, but provides a means for a number of Internet-based services such as real-time financial trading, interactive shopping, networked database access, and simulation-oriented education. In this paper, we survey the background and possibility of the java language, and show how new Java applications should be constructed. For this purpose, we focus on real-time financial database access and remote medical diagnosis. Such remarkable applications are progressively expanded in a world-wide level.
