Abstract

in news material transmission via satellite, transmission power can be largely economized by digitizing picture signals for a lower bit rate. Thus, a compact and light SNG unit is achieved. The digital compression unit for picture data is the key component of the digital SNG unit. We succeeded in compressing picture signals of 216Mb/s down to those of 7Mb/s by means of an adaptive DCT system.
