A Development of 1/2" Hi-vision VTR Incorporating Bit Rate Reduction Technology(3) : Algorithm of Bit Rate Reduction and Developed LSI

Abstract

We have developed 1/2" Hi-vision digital VTR for studio use, which consists of a D-5 VTR and an HD processor for bit rate reduction. This enables to record HDTV signal and 4 channels of PCM audio, preserving the function, performance and running cost of current SDTV digital VTR. In addition to the high picture quality, the error robustness of VTR is also improved by the restoration of erased DCT coefficients with newly developed overlap blocking DCT.
