Abstract

The purpose of this study was to put craft which contributed to the formation of mutual human relationships as a process of forming an empathetic place where the creators changed and behaved in the same way by creating dialogues with other bodies, materials, works and socio-cultural backgrounds, and was to clarify the forming process by focusing on hammering. First, this study set the socio-cultural background which built forging by the historical transition of metal crafts. Next, this research took a case study of Masayuki Hashimoto’s hammering practical training as an example. Students formed their own way of making and objects while interacting with the socio-cultural background of things, people and crafts. At the same time, this research descriptively analyzed the process that they isotypically practiced the sound generated by hitting the material with a hammer from perspectives of “Modeling self-transformation” and “Between-ness.” Through the descriptive analysis, this study defined the process of forming an empathetic place where students behaved in the same pattern by building their particular way of making and objects, experiencing and sharing the formative activity with others while dialoguing with the socio-cultural background of things, people, and crafts.
