Abstract

This paper discusses the effectiveness, as a school teaching material, of a new method of paper plate drypoint devised by the author. The results of a questionnaire survey conducted by the author in 2018 indicate printing instruction., within the limited class hours allocated to Arts and Handicrafts, printing was considered “time-consuming to produce”, as well as “requiring time and effort to prepare and tidy up”. For these reasons, many instructors felt the subject matter to be difficult to manage, and unable to accomplish what they set out to do. The author has been working on the development of paper plate printing techniques for many years as a means of producing my own works. I proposes that these techniques can be applied to help solve the problems of printing instruction. Based on existing paper plate drypoint, a series of production processes has been constructed that incorporate the techniques devised by the author in each stage of draft transfer, plate making, and printing, as well as the ingenuity and know-how cultivated through past production. An outline is given, and the effectiveness as a teaching material discussed.
