Abstract
Before and after 1970, Japanese were given the wider choice of carpet they use than ever before. By researching the usage of Carpets from 1977 until today in Japanese houses, getting off the viewpoints of the binomial opposition of Japanese style or Western style, the interior elememt and the amenity. Another function of the Carpets is found which is called the equipment to delimit space. People has used Carpets as the Equipment which makes his space in good order. It is shown by the cases using Carpets not entirely but partly. The characteristic of this viewpoint is to discuss the interior space not vertically but horizontally.
