Abstract
This paper analyzes the population-decline in the Tokyo “KU” Area from 1980 to 1995, by using National Census. With some quantative analysis, this paper concludes as follows:
1) There are two typical phenomena in the population-decline.One is observed in the central low-population-density area where the rate of the decline is very high, but the amout is rather small. The other is observed in the denselyinhabited area which has density of over 200 people per hectare where the rate is low, but the amout is enormous.
2) The area, where the number of house-holds is getting smaller, is widely spread. In addition, the decline of the house-holds has much influence over the population-decline, compared with the shrink of the house-holds, which has been reffered to as the background of the decline for long time.
3) We should prevent the exessive population-decline like the central area, and at the same time, we have to provide some large amout of houses in the “KU” Area to make the commuting time short and lighten the load of transporting systems.
