Abstract
We investigated the numbers and distribution of maize weevil adults in a rice-milling factory in the Kanto region of Japan for two years from April 2018 using aggregation pheromone traps. The 19 traps were set up in several areas in the factory and replaced monthly. The traps captured 1378 weevils in the first year and 2042 weevils in the second. More than 100 weevils were captured over one year in the areas for brown rice supply, cleaning and separation; brown rice storage; rice milling; and bran storage. Fewer than 100 weevils were captured in the rice milling, packaging, and shipment areas. The greatest number of weevils was captured in the cleaning and separation area (278 weevils) in 2018, whereas it was the bran storage area (408 weevils) in 2019. The numbers of weevils captured peaked in August in 2018 and in October in 2019.
