Abstract
In recent years, the human-animal relationships have changed drastically and the pet business is becoming a large market parallel to the remarkable economic growth in China. However, there is no veterinary nurses professionally, yet in the country. To investigate the differences of animal handling and veterinary medical environment between China and Japan, we performed an interview research on 44 dog owners and a veterinary practitioner in Xinxiang City, Henan, China. The most owners did not have enough knowledge of nutrition or correct feeding procedures, and they have given rabies shots just one time to their dogs. The veterinarian was a graduator of a technical school and there was no veterinary nurse in the hospital. Veterinary nurses instruct pet-owners in nutrition, feeding procedures and prevention of diseases in Japan. We suggest that veterinary nurses should take the key roles in health management of the animals, which leads to improvement of the human-animal bond in China.
