Abstract
We carried out the environmental assessment for lifecycle energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission that occurs with weed control and fertilization on the organic rice cultivation system. We investigated the two type organic rice cultivation systems which control the weed by using the paper multi- and the machinery method in the Ibaraki Prefect.
Lifecycle energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission of the organic cultivation system which used the paper multi were more abounding than that of the other cultivation systems. Lifecycle energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission of the machinery weed control system ware as same as that of the chemical weed control system. Because the rice productivity of the machinery weed control system was low, lifecycle energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission of the machinery weed control system ware more abounding than that of the chemical weed control system per rice production weight. The working hours of this system is also longer than that of the chemical weed control system. The organic cultivation system can not be called environmental loading being not always little.
