Abstract
International standard on still image coding defined in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC29/WG1 is reviewed putting emphasis on the technology trend and the current stage of standardization by classifying the standard into bi-level image coding, multi-level still image coding and entropy coding, including the issues on Intellectual Property Right. Then future trend of related technology including that of standardization is also studied.
