Abstract
This paper present a system designed to automate the production of digital movies. In place of a human one, the virtual director automates basic tasks of orchestrating the action in form of the action & dialog and all other ingredients that contribute to the final motion picture like figures and props. It also automates control decisions on aspects of the making of the film such as camera position & movement, sounding, and lighting. The virtual director use cinematic knowledge to achieve user's intentions through knowledge-based approach. We discuss the design of the virtual director and present an example result of its use in the digital movie producer system DMP.
