Abstract
An ore carrier has a characteristic construction different from that of a general cargo ship or an oil tanker so as to meet its special performance and requirements. The bottom construction of the ore hold of an ore carrier is one of the most important of its hull construction, but little has been done in its investigatin and there is no definite design standard established for it up to date. It may well understood that the determination of the structural strength of the ore hold is a very difficult problem because of a number of extremely complicated elements involved therein. However, on this problem deligent investigations have been made through actual designing of several ore carriers newly builded in ours yard and model tests have been carried out, the result of which were successfully confirmed by the actual experiments made on the ore carriers on service after delivery. The following report is a summary of these results which shows an example of design of bottom construction of ore carrier.
