Abstract
In the previous paper, a method of predicting the longitudinal stresses induced on a ship hull in sea waves was presented. In this prper, the total shearing stress on a longitudinal member is caluculated by the same method as described in the previous paper. Namely, in short- and long-term sea waves, it can be evaluated by using the variances of three component wave loads and the covariances between those component loads, vertical wave shearing force, horizontal wave shearing force and wave torsional moment. Exact application of this method for a large oil tanker in the North Atlantic Ocean and approximate long-term correlation method is examined in the comparison with the so-called square root method.
