Modernity has neglected and weakened local communities. We, ourselves, have chosen such a situation. Today, the social system, which was in the beginning only a means to improve life, has become gigantesque and runs without any controls. This folly has its roots in people’s everyday life in local communities as hinterlands of the system. However, the local communities are also people’s rational base for reacting against violent systems. We tried to elucidate the interaction between local communities and people, through the life history of Mr. Hoshino, a local publisher in Saitama. In the local communities, there are always key persons who activate local people. His life history shows that people build up local communities and communities build up people.
