Crystal Structure of 2,2′-Diselenobis(acetic acid)

Abstract

The title compound, (SeCH₂COOH)₂ or C₄H₆O₄Se₂, was synthesized and characterized by microanalysis, NMR spectroscopy (¹H, ¹³C and ⁷⁷Se) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Structural analysis revealed that carboxylic groups of the molecule form intermolecular hydrogen bonds with the O-O distance between the carboxylic acid groups in the range of 2.604 and 2.669 Å. The distance between two selenium atoms is 2.3054(14)Å.
