Abstract

The flux synthesis of YAG:Ce crystals was investigated using a non-lead flux. By B2O3-KF flux the single crystals of YAG:Ce with a diameter of several 10 μm were obtained, and the yellow photoluminescence was observed. The X-ray fluorescence analysis of the obtained samples, however, showed that the Pb contamination from the furnace should be possible, which is to be considered in the experiment. And many small crystals in the bulky mass were obtained, urging our reconsideration to the crystal growth process.
