Abstract
This report demonstrates that the Black Swallowtail butterfly, Papilio protenor demetrius Cramer has memory of the colour of incentive substance for oviposition. Naive butterflies show a preference for red artificial flowers. The red artificial flowers were visited significantly more frequently than the yellow artificial flowers. Butterflies were given yellow peel of grapefruit for oviposition. First butterflies lay eggs on yellow peel of grapefruit. Second butterflies lay more eggs on the yellow artificial flowers than on green plastic sheet and red artificial flowers. This shows that butterflies have memory of the colour of yellow peel of grapefruit.
