Salmonella meningitis: Report from National Hue Central Hospital, Vietnam

Abstract

Four Vietnamese infants with Salmonella meningitis achieving survival are reported. A relapsed female infant recovered without complication and another had neurological sequellae. Remaining two survived without complications. The initial treatment was started with chloramphenicol and ceftriaxone. Change of antibiotics to imipenem and fluoroquinolone was carried out in two cases. Fluoroquinolonemay be possible choice in complicated course, although it is considered as contraindication in pediatric age group.
