Effects of treatment with streptomycin or of pretreament with attenuated Brucella on the induction of endotoxin hyperreactivity in mice infected with Brucella abortus were investigated.
The mice treated with streptomycin in an early stage after the infection showed a reduced sensitivity to endotoxin than control (infected, non-treated) mice, and it was also exhibited that they had fewer oreanisms in the organs than the controls.
Mice pretreated with attenuated Brucella and challenged with a virulent strain exhibited a higher sensitivity than controls (infected) at 1 day after the challenge, but at 7 days after challenge, they showed a lower sensitivity than the controls. Viable count of the liver of the pretreated mice was reduced drastically at 7 days after challenge.
