Abstract
Questionnaire survey concerning on low back pain (LBP) was carried out for nurses in the Yokohama City University Hospital.Complete replies were obtained from 527 staffs (84.7%). The replied nurses were able to be classificated into 3 distinct groups, (1) the first, those without any experience of LBP, (2) the second, those without LBP for the recent more than one month before the survey, (3) the third, those with persistent LBP for more than one month including the last month before survey.Eighty-four staffs belonged to the 1st group, 51 to the 2nd, and 392 to the 3rd.The degree of LBP were mild in the most staffs of the 2nd and the 3rd group, and LBP were mainly aggravated by a half-sitting posture and nursing for the patients who were bedridden.the incidence of chronic LBP became significantly higher in the staffs who work eight-hour shifts than the other ones who work on the day or work a twe-shift system (p<0.01).
