On One Method of Flooding Calculation

Abstract

The proposed method is to determine the floodable length of a ship entirely by calculation, which is believed to be very simple and accurate. The special features of the method are as follows ; 1. The form of margin line may be any one. 2. The sectional area curve is assumed to be parabolic as far as it concerns nearly the range of floodable length. 3. The determination of floodable length is to be calculated by tables which are specially prepared as to be seen in the Appendix. A few approximations, which were already proved by Mr. Ikoshima to be allowable, are also adopted.
