The energy consumption of buildings accounts for a high proportion of total energy. In order to achieve sustainable development and reduce energy load, zero energy buildings (ZEB) will become the main theme of the development of the construction industry. Since there are few demonstration projects of zero energy buildings, this paper designs and implements a nearly zero energy building (nZEB) in Yangzhong City, China. The paper thoroughly introduces the design of nZEB including its supported renewable energy power generations and overall structure. What's more, local weather condition is taken into consideration to realize nZEB properly. Finally, based on the real data measured via smart meters, we can attain the energy consumption patterns and user behavior characteristics to formulate apt energy management. Results show that the designed nZEB can reach a near zero power behavior.
