Occurence of the Giant toad,
Bufo marinus, in Minami-Daitojima, Ryukyu Archipelago was confirmed. Morphologically specimens from the island closely resemble with those from Bonin Island and Colombia. In Minami-Daitojima it has established breeding populations and is now coexisting with
B. bufo miyakonis, also introduced there. Existence of
B. melanostictus, hitherto reported from the island by several authors, is quite doubtful as they seemed to have confused it with
marinus Invading processes of
marinus into the island were discussed with related to introduction of toads from Formosa, and it was assumed that the present population in the island may be the descendant from Hawaii. Introduction of this toad into new locality always is a great injury to the native fauna, and further invasion of
marinus into other islands of Ryukyus, where rare endemic animals are abundant, ought to be checked.
