A seafloor geodetic observation robot network system requires a high bit rate and low error rate to enable it to successfully upload a large amount of observed geodetic data and download commands without a cable connection. An acoustic network system aimed at realizing a transmission bit rate of 500 kilobits per second (Kbps) is being developed. As the first step, to verify the feasibility of the proposed system, a 100-Kbps prototype acoustic network system with a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) implementation has been developed by employing a phase-shift keying (PSK) modulation. Further, the capability and functions of the proposed system have been investigated by conducting an experimental transmission in a small water tank.
