JOURNAL FREE ACCESSIn this paper, an arm mechanism design problem based on the hierchical systems optimization method is dealt with. First, we define an arm mechanism design problem which is constructed by the hierarchical optimization problem. Next, we solve the design problem, moreover we point out that our method can obtain a numerical result in very little time. In this paper, we refer to an industrial manipulator. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSA dynamic lot-production planning problem can be formulated by a 0-1 pure integer programming instead of the traditional 0-1 mixed integer programming. This paper analyzes the 0-1 pure integer programming model which may be suitable for planning a short-range lot production, and three results are obtained. The first rusult is to propose an efficient algorithm for a single-item problem. The second result is to establish a polynomial-time algorithm for a two-item problem, even though the two-item problem in the 0-1 mixed integer programming model has a property of NP-completeness. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThis paper proposes a knowledge representation method (page model) for developing an expert system. This method has three characteristics : (1) It classifies the knowledge into facts, relation-ships among facts, rules, and an inference mechanism which is a certain arrangement of rules for inference. (2) It notes the features of each knowledge component in one page in such a manner that a theory is usually evolved by using notes. It distinguishes between rules which have a theoretical background and empirical rules for a particular problem. (3) It proposes six symbols to represent the inference mechanism : AND convergence, OR convergence, AND branch, OR branch, backtracking and cut. This model is applied to represent an expert system for a multi-item assembly line, and its advantages are evident.View full abstractDownload PDF (696K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSOptimization anaysis of a flow-type multistage manufacturing system was conducted. A procedure for obtaining the optimum sizes of in-process buffers was proposed from the standpoint of minimizing the maximum flowtime. In addition, a general algorithmic procedure was developed for optimization of systems represented by multiple decision variables, by utilizing the simulation technique.
