An empirical investigation about the silver iodide dispersion was made with serieses of emulsions which were varied the condition of making systematically. Temperature, excess halide, time of precipitation, and total Ag I content affected the results.
The first additions of silver is considered to cause the least soluble component to precipitate first, then large amount of solution and redistribution of the initial precipitate will occur. During later stages Ostwald ripening will prevail.
During conversion process silver iodide fine particles were formed, but at the same time ion exchange reaction occurred between bromide ion in solid phase and iodide ion in solution.
